A very fine Victorian walnut open bookcase, Circa 1860-1880, of small proportions and handsome, practical design. The rectangular top has a moulded edge above a deep frieze and a neat cornice moulding. Below, the open case is fitted with three adjustable shelves, each resting on notched racks within the sides, so the spacing can be set for anything from paperbacks to large folios. The case stands on a plinth base.

The walnut is beautifully coloured, with a rich, glowing patina and attractive grain, most evident on the side panels. In very fine condition throughout, this is a classic Victorian library bookcase that suits a study, living room, hallway or bedroom.
