A nice quality English Windsor armchair, Circa 1850, of low hoop-back form with a solid elm seat. The pierced splat is carved in a stylised fleur-de-lys motif, flanked by close-set spindles rising to a bent hoop crest rail. The turned baluster arm supports and legs display crisp ring-turning, and the front legs are joined by a shaped crinoline stretcher.
The elm seat has developed a rich, deep patina with attractive figuring to the grain, and the chair overall shows honest wear consistent with genuine age and generations of use. A sturdy, comfortable and very usable example of the traditional English Windsor armchair.
