Victorian Beech “Oxford” Windsor Chair

A strong and well proportioned Victorian high back Oxford Windsor chair in solid beech, made in the High Wycombe-Oxfordshire chair making district C.1860-1880.

Three broad curved back splats, shaped arms on double turned supports, turned legs on an H-stretcher base, a beech saddle seat with the square chamfered back corners used in the region's workshops.

The rear edge of the seat bears a single "M" stamp, an internal maker's or seat shaper's mark. In good, very solid condition, and very comfortable to boot.
