English Oak Gateleg Dining Table C.1690-1730
A substantial William & Mary to early Queen Anne period English oak gate leg table with a superbly patinated oval plank top over a well proportioned frame with turned legs with characteristic square blocks and moulded flat stretchers.
Evidence in the stretchers and top rail indicates the table was originally a double gateleg configuration, later converted to a single gate arrangement with period appropriate replacement gates.
Beautifully patinated of good colour and bearing a number of charming ancient repairs, this table presents as a rare survivor from the early 18th century, still in daily use after three hundred years.
