A substantial mid-18th-century French Provincial oak enfilade (buffet) from Western France (Brittany/Vendée region), dating to circa 1750.
Constructed entirely from heavy-gauge, solid European oak, the facade features three beautifully configured drawers over three panelled doors. The doors open to reveal an expansive interior with a heavy, solid oak central shelf, providing highly practical modern storage.
The carving features shaped rocaille cartouches with rosette corners to each door panel, echoed in the reeded drawer fronts above. The beautifully sculpted apron features a central folk-art rosette, resting on traditional short pieds en biche (scrolled feet). The cabinet retains its magnificent, original elongated and pierced iron escutcheons (entrées de serrure), long iron fiche hinges, and iron swing handles.
Very good, honest antique condition. Structurally rock-solid with excellent weight. The doors hang straight and true with minimal historic movement. Retains minor, highly sympathetic historical restorations entirely consistent with a 270+ year working life, including early blacksmith-repaired interior hinges and lined drawer runners. The oak has developed a magnificent, deep mellow patina. Cleaned, waxed, and ready for the home.
