A handsome English oak barrister's bookcase, c.1920-1930, of sectional stacking construction in the Globe Wernicke style — also known as a lawyer's bookcase or stacking bookcase. The three tiers each have a lift-and-slide glass front door running on internal metal tracks, allowing books to be accessed without removing the doors, and each section separates cleanly from the one below for ease of moving or reconfiguring.
The oak displays strong quarter-sawn figure with pronounced ray fleck across the top, sides and door frames, finished to a warm, glowing patina. The case sits on a moulded plinth base with shaped tapered feet, and the top is finished with a subtle applied cornice edge. Original brass door pulls throughout.
Presented in very nice condition, with all three glass-front doors sliding smoothly and the sectional joints tight and true, it has been re-polished and wax finished in our workshop. A versatile and practical piece, equally suited to a study, library or home office, and a smart way to display books or collectables behind glass.
